Today, Ethan went on cue based feedings, meaning he is setting his own schedule- HE IS OFFICIALLY THE BOSS. The nurses tell me he will always be in control! Ethan LOVES sleeping and sometimes we have to wake him up to make sure he get enough volume of feeding. The doctors set his bar high, to take 165mL every 12 hours on his own. He needed some help to meet that goal through his gavage tube, but is still doing great! The nurse tried a bottle 2 nights ago and their feedback was that Ethan nurses better than he does with the bottle. They will try again to see if we could start using one instead of having to gavage, if we have to catch up to meet our total daily mL intake goal. They keep saying the "lighbulb" will click soon and he will surpass his feeding goals. Right now his lighbulb is flickering, we think he has it and then it dies out again. Once again, showing us he is in control! This is all one step closer to going home. They also are thinking he is getting Reflux, he is not spitting up a whole lot, but when he is flat on his back after feeding he sometimes gets milk back up his throat, which sets off his alarms. It scares us every time, but now they inclined his crib so his is more upright, which seems to be helping. Reflux is just another "trick" preemies pull showing their immaturity. We love him so much and are so proud of the little guy!
