Another big night for Ethan! When Brad went in for Ethan's 11:00 feeding he found Ethan in a CRIB! Of course he came right back to the room to come get me to show me Ethan's big accomplishment! We always joked that when he was in his isolette it looked like he was on display in a case in a museum. The nurse tonight referred to his new crib as a Palace, we thought that sounded pretty good! So, here are some first moments in his Palace.
Mom and Dad are so excited! It will be so much easier to take care of you in here!
As you can see, Ethan can hold his pacifier ALL BY HIMSELF now. He loves soothing himself with it. He really showed big signs of being ready to eat today. I got called to come feed him 35 min. before his scheduled feedings 3 times today. He was crying and ready to go! He is doing a great job nursing so far. The nurses are in AMAZEMENT of how well he does this being he is only 32 weeks and they usually don't start until 34 weeks. He is taking more than a 1/3 of his feeding from me (10 to 12 mL) and then they gavage feed him the rest. He does about every other feeding with some nursing. He is not ready for nursing every feeding. Too much work for the little guy. They did up his feedings to 38mL every 3 hours. One braggy story here: during rounds this morning the nurse asked the doctors if they were sure they had his date (32 weeks 4 days) correct and the docs said "Joyce, some kids have to be top of their class." I thought that was cute! Let's hope he can stay top of class throughout his time here.
3 things have to happen with Ethan before going to his new home to Chancery Lane (it will feel like a new home to me too- only lived there 4 days!) 1. Being able to breathe on his own- CHECK- did that right away. 2. Regulate body temperature in room air- CHECK- got the crib now just have to keep his temperature stable. 3. Suck, Swallow, Breathe and get full feedings from nursing- on his way to be doing that too!
3. Hiccuping, mom and dad went to a baby massage class today and learned some new methods to help these go away.
Thanks again for all the prayers everyone is sending my way! God is really looking out for me and my mommy and daddy!
