Garrett's Birth Story

Nov. 21 I received my LAST Makena shot and was 37 1/2 weeks along. Feeling so blessed to be that far! Fast forward to Monday the 26th. After work I felt like maybe I lost my mucus plug but I wasn't for sure as it was nothing like when I lost mine with the others. I felt fine so life went on. Tuesday baby was moving ALL day ALL over the place. Had a slight feeling something was progressing. I jokily said, "well the others were both born on a Wednesday, maybe tomorrow is the day." I woke up on the 28th feeling great. Went to school and thought maybe I was feeling some contractions, but mostly just tightness and it never seemed to release for me to time anything. I had a 3:00 appointment and ultra sound that day knowing I was leaving work at 2:45 I thought I could make it until then. Then lunch rolled around at 12:45 and when I went to walk my class to the lunch room I felt like that was a bit of a struggle. During lunch I was going to run to Walgreens to pick up a package that get delivered there. My co-worker and friend Rachael, said she would take me as she was worried maybe I shouldn't drive. I took her up on the offer. We ran to Walgreens and the lady working was the SLOWEST sloth ever and so that took up our whole lunch. It was now 1:15 and we heading back to Hoover and I was wincing with some pain. Rachael convinced me to call the dr. In my mind I only 1 1/2 hours to get through and I would be at the doctors anyways. But, I called. They told me to come in- keep in mind it was not good weather out- snowy and slick out. We went back to Hoover to tell people I was going to the dr and Rachael was going to drive me. I called Brad and told him to come home. He was about an hour away at a meeting. I called mom as well. I got the the doctors office at about 1:40 and the pain really kicked in. Rachael took me up and we waited what seemed like forever! I was debating whether I should be in the hospital or at the clinic! They called me back about 2:00. Dr. Goerisch took a look, said I was dialated to a 4 and that some fluid that was leaking was indeed amniotic fluid and I would be having my baby today! Enters Brad. All nervous they wheeled me over to the hospital and I got in bed around 2:25. They stuck me with an IV but didn't get anything hooked up yet. Dr. Goerisch had said she would be back later to break my water completely. I called other people to tell them I was in the hospital and while on the phone with Dad at 2:45 my water broke. Brad told our "in no hurry for anything nurse" that with my other kids once my water broke things moved fast. She nodded but was still dinking around. No one had check to see if I had dialated anymore. No time for drugs (just like my other ones) anyways. Still no iv hooked up yet either. Had some REALLY bad conctractions and the nurse just kept saying you have breath. I explained that they were really strong and she was like "yep this will be the way it is for a few hours until baby comes." After about 3 strong ones I "felt something down there coming out" I told her and she finally stopped what she was doing and took a peek. The bed and room wasn't even set up for delivery and they hadn't even cleaned up my mess from my water breaking. So I was still laying in all of that mess. She then imediately called my doc and other nurses in. Like 5 times frantically she called- time now about 2:55. Dr. Gorisch arrived right at 3 and told me to bear down and to push. 3:05 baby was born! On the way our his cord was warpped around his neck and she had to cut it to get it around his shoulder to allow me to push the final time. Also, she informed me there was a true knot in the cord when it was all out. I am soo thankful that Rachael made me go in as it would have been not as good if I would have delivered on my way to the hospital if I would have stayed at work any longer!
It seemed like it took forever for someone to tell me whether we had a boy or girl!

 Felt great right away after.
 Getting all warmed up.

Weight- 6 lbs 12 oz. Just a little peanut!

Loved his hands in his mouth the second he was born!

Holding baby...still no name.

First bath 12 hours later 3 am. Still no name.
Sleeping with dad.
The look of Brad the next morning freaking out we didn't have a name yet. So we decided we need to make the decision because he was going to become Buddy soon if we didn't. We just talked to him using Buddy since we didn't have a name. Garrett John Weber it was!
Spent Thursday night in the hospital again and we ready to bust out on Friday!
Heading home!
Luke reading his new Big Brother book to Garrett.

At home snuggles! Grandma Lori went home Friday night and grandpa Butcher and connie came up later that night. OF course the weather got yucky and I was worried about all those grandparents on the road!
Then on Saturday morning I had a HUGE surprise....

KATIE came out of NO WHERE! Was so shocked and grateful for her to make that special trip for us!

We settled in a bit the next few days.
Dad took Luke skiing
We all awaiting the announcement of the ISU Bowl Game!

Grandpa Butcher snuggles

Aunt Katie snuggles

Ethan snuggles!

Grandma Lori came back the next week to help out for a few days!
They made candy cane cookies one day
Big Brother Ethan...a pro using the remote and holding the baby brother!

The first week was a whirlwind! Luke got sick and stayed home, Garrett had his one week appointment and then got circumsized at his 2 week one. He was gaining good weight, more than an ounce a day! Which was good to know my feeding every 2 hrs around the clock was paying off. The kid sure did get hungry fast!
All in all it was a SUPER fast delivery being born less than hour later being at the clinic and 40 min after being in the hospital! We are so blessed and grateful for a beautiful, healthy, baby boy! Garrett John you are soo loved!
