The indecisive Weber's had lots of ideas to do during our Spring Break/Easter Break. We had Mexico- then Brad started watching El Chopo and get freaked out, Florida is always an option but it was stupid expensive, and then one day while getting our hair cut our hair lady always talks skiing with the boys and asked if we had ever been to Lutsen skiing. We looked into it and I thought, totally not my typically vacation, but the boys would love it! So we went for it! The boys and I have never even been to Duluth to see Lake Superior, so Lutsen is almost 2 hours north of there. "Up North" is BEAUTIFUL! I am so glad we made the decision to go. Our only regret was missing out on Easter with the Weber's- it harder than we thought seeing all their pics and missing out on seeing them! Next year we actually have a real spring break- so back to our normal Easter plans.
Our first spot when we saw the Lake. Had been in the car for about 3 hrs. We needed out.
Jesus Saves was spelled out in little rocks...very fitting for Easter Weekend!
We stopped at a brewery north of Duluth called Two Harbors. Ethan trying some orange soda.
Luke will always be the fun guy at the bar, I am afraid!
A little game of Apples to Apples.
The boys thought these tunnels through the mountains were cool!
This is our view from our hotel room. We had a lower level in a town house type of lodging, it is a ski in and ski out place. We didn't know where we would ski out to on the first day so we took the shuttle to the smaller mountain. By day 2 Brad and Ethan were ready to tackle the BIG Moose Mountain where this lead too. I however was not! So Luke got stuck with me in the morning. We did however all ski back in- well the back in required some cross country type skiing up that slope you see. It was an adventure, well the whole trip was quite an adventure!
Day one skiing on Ulur Mountain- I hung out on Ulur all day. If you look you can see Lake Superior at the foot of that hill. The pictures don't give these view justice! I would be in awe and then reality would sink in that I actually had to ski down the hill. haha. No wipe outs the first day for anyone! Big Bunny was a super long trail. Big Bunny was my best friend the first day. I do have to say I CONQUERED it! It would connect to the bottle of some black diamonds and I would watch those skiiers come off it super fast and was in awe!
The runs were long and lots of different routes to branch off from. Ethan was my guide down this hill. He also was coaching me quite a bit and providing me with encouragement.
The COOLEST thing was this new gondala...it fit 8 people, skis went outside and it carried us up to Moose Mountain. The view were breathtaking!
What you saw getting off the gondala. This hill was all hard blues and blacks. The first day we opted to just eat up there and head back down and try some others on Eagle Mountain. The cool thing about Eagle was it's SUPER long lift. It went over a river, a road, and I made Brad take Luke...he makes me nervous on the lifts.
This is the top of Eagle...way harder hills than Uler. Obviously it din't freak these guys out. Brad and Ethan discovered the hill that connected to the run that led back to our hotel. So the two of them went back that way.
Day 2: Brad and Ethan headed to Moose, Luke and I started back on my favorite- Big Bunny!
Luke's quote, "Do what I do mom, then you will be good."
We planned on meeting up at the top of Moose for lunch. Luke and brought our skis up thinking maybe we could try some hills over there. He was PUMPED!
A pic from Brad and Ethan's morning adventure.
After eating Brad agreed to take both boys on a route that would lead back to the lodge. I was so nervous watching them go down that huge black hill in front of the lodge.
They went down that.
There they went!
So of their views.
They made it back! And then convinced me that I could do it- that the hardest part was the part I was looking it.
So off we went.
I wiped out of course, and then had shaky legs- Brad was a rock star and coached me down to the "easy part."
Back up the as Luke called it, "Roller Coaster" lift. It was sweet. 6 people and it went fast! A bar to hold us was a nice perk!
I opted to let them all explore more hills and I stayed in to watch. Off again...Brotherly love!
What a great day we had! The skiing closes at 4 because they don't do night skiing. The boys watched the Final Four game and I actually headed to a winery by myself. I have never gone out drinking by myself before...weird...but I need a drink! ha.
It ended with us back up at Moose for a Family party with Koo Koo Kangeroo. They are some silly guys that I actually play their videos for Brain Breaks in my classroom. So I thought that was cool!
Luke wasn't quite used to not being the craziest person in a room!
This picture is another one that doesn't give the beauty justice. The FULL orange moon came out and it was so pretty!
Our night ended with a fireworks show!
The Easter Bunny made it!
They had fun hunting eggs and eating while we packed up.
Back through the tunnels on the way home. Definitely will be back some day! What an adventure...I was proud of us!! Great memories!
