1/2 Marathon and Birthday

This is a mommy and daddy post.
I ran a 1/2 marathon over my fall break and quite honestly surprised myself with how well it went. I was 155 out of over 1800 runners and in the top 30 of female finishers. Never did I think I would do that well or really even cared how well I did. I just wanted to do it! I signed up when I was pregnant and was told I couldn't exercise and thought I would need the event to motivate me to get the baby weight off that I was so aggressively putting on at the time! I am super glad I did it. I missed my running partner Brad though. I really enjoyed training with him 3 years ago. Doing the training solo was a bit boring.
Here are some photos from my big day!

The morning of the race I was extremely nervous- it was only 30 degrees and I didn't do ANY cold weather training as our fall had been super nice. All my training was in shorts and t-shirts and I was nervous about this. So, I snapped this photo to pump myself up in the morning when getting ready!

Mom was up for the weekend to help cheer me on and help Brad bring the kids to cheer, too. How cute are these 2?
I had 3 spots for them to go that I thought were easy to get to and where I may need some motivation.
This is what I saw at mile 4. Almost brought me to tears. Brad and mom must have been busy making signs after I left!
Again, cheering hard at mile 8!

Here they are close to the finish. I honestly didn't see them as I was getting a bit dizzy an there were so many people. I was staring down the giant FINISH sign hoping to make it there! ha

You can see a little pain in my face- JUST WANTED TO FINISH!
After the finish in the resting area I walked up and saw this! Again, melted my heart! Of course Ethan thought I "won the race"

Got my finisher medal- note the guy in the background puking- awesome photo bomb!
I love my Nike running app- it got me through training! Here were some fun screen shots afterwards!
Mommy's cheering boys!
Grandma found the lobby of the bank's door propped open and snuck in there with Luke afterwards. The doors were definetly locked, but it was like my own private warming quarters afterwards. Thanks grandma!
A Bloody Mary with a great friend of mine, Staci. She ran too.
 The BEST fans!
The sweetest lady on the planet, Grandma Butcher, sent me this homemade poster card. She made it herself on the computer! She has some great skills on that card maker computer program! Love her to pieces!

Then on Wednesday it was Brad's birthday. Unfortunatly, I got sick Monday night, Luke was battling an ear infection, and Ethan had gymnastics on his birthday so, we had a low key party. I feel pretty bad about that!
Ethan wanted a surprise party, so he hid behind the chair for almost 30 minutes waiting for dad to come home to eat cake and Chinese we picked up at Hy-Vee for him. He was good at hiding, but bad a keeping his gift a surprise! The moment Brad walked in Ethan goes, "wanna open your gummy worms I got you dad?"

Best I could do with my 3 yahoos!
 Make a wish dad!
 Ethan's turn
It was Brad could do to hold Luke back, he wanted that cake bad!
Opening gifts.

Happy Birthday to Brad. An amazing dad and husband! We love you!
