Thursday
Thursday was a normal day. Doing what normal people with full term babies do in the 24 hours after birth. Well, besides the fact we had to dress the newest Cyclone fan in all his gear to watch the Cyclones play in the Big 12 tourney!
Daddy's newest Cyclone fan!
We won!
You should have seen the Zeinth from 1989 that we watched the game from in our room. If the players went to the top half of the screen, their red uniforms turned pink- made us laugh, but not our typical game watching equipment!
Friday
We were thinking we would get out of the hospital just like any other normal pregnancy this time. So, come Friday morning when we were thinking we would be going home, change of plans! The doctors discharged me, but they wanted to keep Luke and do further testing. Because I was postive for Group B Strep (GBS) AND labor went to fast to get all 4 hours of antibitics, they wanted to further blood work to make sure he didn't get the infection. Well, blood work that was supposed to be done at 7am got done at about 1pm. It had to have 12 hours for the full culture to grow and get results. So, it was a long day of waiting!
Just when I was worried enough, they told me all babies have to pass a new blood oxygen test (used to be just blood pressure). Luke failed it 3 times, so they ordered an EKG to make sure his heart was okay. Bring on more worry!
Friday was NOT a fun day in the hospital. Brad about freaked out on the young boy who was drawing Luke's blood as he has huge wounds in his heel from a "simple heel poke that should take 30 seconds" that really took about 5 min! Then to find out 3 hours later they needed to do it again because the blood clotted before they could do the test!!
A visit from Ethan helped improve our moods!
Good news and bad news came later that evening. EKG was NORMAL!! Yippee! Blood work had beginning signs of infection free! Bad news, jaundice. He was 0.3 away from really needed treatment, but to be on the safe side we started phototherapy that night. Which I am SO glad the nurses said, "just do it!" We had another Cyclone game to keep our mind off of being stuck in the hospital!
Saturday
Early Sat. morning Luke's nurse said to go get his carseat so he can do his carseat trail and get you guys out of here. So, we go get it at 7am ready to go home by noon! Then, more bad news. They wanted to keep him for another 12 hours under the lights for his jaundice. Disappointment again! Then mid-morning I got kicked out of our room since I wasn't a paitent they needed our room for another mother. We got booted to this closet sized room in the pediatrics department. Not even a bed, or a shower (which would have been nice to know before I left!).
Luke DID pass his carseat trial!
Mom and Frank were on their way up to visit, so that kept our spirits up. Grandma Lori was in Turks when BOTH her new grandson's were born! To say she couldn't wait was an understatement. She was coming up to see me and then off to Florida to meet Drew in a day and half!
First time meeting Grandma!
Frank getting his snuggles, too.
Wide open!
More brotherly love!
The day got very boring. Our excitement was a trip to CVS! We got kind of giddy and Brad decided our room was like being in block D at Alcatraz. Green walls just like in Alcatraz!
Sharing the only chair/convertible bed in the room! Waiting until 7 pm to see if Luke's levels were low enough to get out of there that night!!
